The Strategic Plan Committee (SPC), who composed The Strategic Plan during fall 2008 and this past spring, intends to “provide a vision and strategies to guide Pace over the next five years.”
The SPC currently has five strategic goals: to advance the University’s academic programs, build a culture of community, create vibrant and distinctive campus identities, build a strong financial foundation and efficient infrastructure and enhance the University’s visibility.
The first goal, to advance the University’s academic programs, has four main points.
The first point is to recruit, develop and retain an outstanding and diverse faculty, as 21 new professors were hired this year.
The second and third points are to build distinctive, high-quality academic programs and integrate education for the professions with knowledge, skills and dispositions drawn from the liberal arts.
The fourth point, to establish robust University Centers for Excellence, will be going into implementation soon. This means collaborative learning and scholarship opportunities for students, involving faculty from the different colleges within the University.
“The first University Center of Excellence will be formulated on the topic of environmental sustainability,” University Director of Public Information Chris Cory said.
The second goal, to build a culture of community, aims to boost morale and strengthen the college experience for all students.
It talks about expanding and improving residential life, as well as improving the community of faculty, staff, alumni, the board of trustees and the Administration.
The third goal sets to build a distinctive campus identity. It attempts to accomplish this by establishing the University’s NYC campus as one of the nation’s outstanding urban campuses.
The SPC plans to do this by developing a plan to create a “campus-district” in the neighborhood surrounding One Pace Plaza using current University real estate, enhanced signage and banners and efforts to attract retail establishments of interest to University students.
It also aims to utilize the University’s academic facilities as well as provide facilities that are attractive, secure and green.
The fourth goal’s purpose, to build a strong financial foundation, aims to increase enrollment and build the University’s financial assets.
The last goal is to enhance the University’s visibility. The plan focuses on attempting this by increasing the University’s outreach, regard and recognition, as well as expanding and deepening the University’s relationships with the larger community.
Updates to the Strategic Plan are to be announced by President Stephen J. Friedman soon.
