Protest on Broadway for universal healthcare

On Feb. 20, people were protesting for the United States to have universal healthcare. The protest took place on Broadway between Cortlandt Street and Liberty Street. The protest not only had people holding signs for Health Care for America NOW (HCAN) and other signs but also chanting, “Change now.”

According to their Web site,  HCAN is a national grassroots campaign. They are compromised of  more than 1,000 organizations in 46 states.
 More 30 million people represent the organizations which is dedicated to affordable universal healthcare.

HCAN ideas are supported by President Barack Obama, Vice  President Joe Biden and more than 190 Members of Congress.

“Most bankruptcies are due to healthcare costs,” one woman who is a nurse stated. Another woman from Staten Island stated that she is, “being sued by credit card companies because she cannot afford healthcare,” and thus she cannot pay her credit card bills on time.
