The Economist is looking for volunteers
The Economist is a weekly newsmagazine based in London and was founded in 1843.
The Economist Magazine will be hosting an event here at the University called Buttonwood Gathering on Oct. 15-16. The Buttonwood gathering brings together global regulators, financial leaders and bankers.
According to the University's Web site, "the event will go beyond typical financial industry events by seeking to bridge financial issues with macroeconomic and geopolitical issues. In addition to debate and discussion among leading actors and opinion leaders involved in the discourse on the future of the global financial system."
The Buttonwood Gathering will feature dinner at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). CNBC's "Closing Bell" hosted by Maria Bartiromo will be airing live from the event.
The Economist is looking for students to help put on the event. Duties would include helping with registration and the media, working backstage and ushering and checking bags.
Shifts are available on Oct. 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Oct. 16 shifts are available from 6:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Lubin school offering classes for students
The Lubin School of Business' Center for Professional Education is offering Continuing Professional Education (CPE), Financial Planning Certificate Program and the CPA Review Program.
The University's CPE program is a licensed and registered professional education program in New York and surrounding states. The program helps to meet mandatory CPE requirements by offering programs to specifically meet their needs and offering education in business.
The Financial Planning Certificate Program offers courses in financial, insurance, investment, income tax, estate and retirement planning. It also offers the national CFP Certification Examination.
Courses are being offered at both the NYC and PLV campuses. There are ten sessions of the course which is taught from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The CPA review program is being offered here at the University along with other Universities as well.
Companies that have used the CPE and Financial Planning Programs are IBM, JP Morgan Chase and Merrill Lynch.
This year, services also being offered are a series of programs at the New York Dept. of Taxation and Finance here in NYC.
Workshops are also being offered , including fraud and forensic accounting, auditing refresher, financial accounting refresher and elder care.
