The election for NYC mayor on November 3 has current Mayor Michael Bloomberg running for re-election once again. In 2008, the New York City Council extended the term limits from two to three so Mayor Bloomberg could be in the running for a third term.

Even though Bloomberg has stated he does not plan on running for a fourth term, while seeking a third, he seems to have contradicted himself when he said he was not going to even seek a third term.

Stating in the New York Daily News, "Let me point out that I had no intention of running for a (third) term up until near the end, as you know. City council changed the law."

With Mayor Bloomberg currently running for a third term, some are speculating that he may want to run for a fourth term should he win a third time. According to the New York Daily News, "The mayor insisted he isn't thinking of trying to change the term limits law yet again to facilitate a run in 2013, assuming he defeats his likely Democratic opponent, Comptroller, Bill Thompson, in the November election."

In November, Mayor Bloomberg's main opponent is Thompson. Thompson won the Democratic nomination from Tony Avella with 69 percent of the votes according to the New York Times on the Sept. 15 primary. Bloomberg is the Republican nominee and endorsed by the Independent Party as well.

If Bloomberg does win the November election he will have been mayor of NYC for 12 years by the time he leaves office. He was first elected in November 2001 and re-elected again in November 2005.

Bloomberg stated in the New York Daily News about if he did run for a fourth term, "I would be 71 and running. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But when I'm 71, I will have a different career. Hopefully not when I’m 67...I think there's a point at which you can't do anymore. You get tired and bored."

As stated on Mikebloomberg.com, for the upcoming election the mayor is focusing on issues such as improving the MTA, helping to expand service and improve the quality of it. He also wants to help the middle class by them with community college and saving them money and improving their education.

The mayor also wants to help with public safety by having stricter gun control laws. He also wants to help fight crime with new technology and he wants to create more jobs for people over all five boroughs.

Voting day for the upcoming election is Nov. 3.
