Undergraduate summer courses were recently changed from $845 to $650 per credit, a cost reduction of 23 percent for students.
To take a three-credit course in prior summer sessions, students paid $2535 for tuition alone. This year's rate change will bring the tuition of a three-credit course to $1950.
The reduction was announced on Friday, March 7 by Interim Vice President for Enrollment
Management, Robina Schepp.
"We want students to be able to take classes in the summer and do not provide financial aid, so we think this will be more responsive to their needs," Schepp said.
The move was in partial response to concerned faculty members raising questions about the previous tuition rate. In a March 7 press release, Schepp thanked those who helped in "calling attention to the matter."
There is great disparity among private and public city universities offering summer courses. Nearby New York University's tuition rates are approximately $1040 per credit. Non-degree residential students taking classes at Baruch College, part of the City University of New York, pay $250 per credit.
Professor Bill Offutt advised Honors College students to look beyond NYC campus classes.
"There are many online courses which do not require any physical presence here," Offutt suggested.
Registration for the University's summer sessions began on March 5. Course selections are available online at pace.edu/summer. The website provides information and news on both summer sessions.
