According to the Campus Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, every University receiving federal aid must distribute to all institution members a list of statistics related to crimes that have happened on-campus in the past. The University's Web site only lists from 2004 to 2006 statistics.
The inquired rape happened on May 3, 1986 at One Pace Plaza, according to The New York Times. It was the first rape reported since the opening of the building in 1968. "She had just finished taking an examination when she entered a third-floor bathroom near the biology laboratories at about 6:10 p.m. and was approached by a man, a police spokesman," Sgt. John Venetucci, said.
This situation would have been avoided if the unknown man was intercepted by security. According to the security guide on the University's Web site, "Pace University provides a 24 hours a day, 365 day per year security presence on each campus. There is a supervisor on duty at all times in addition to fixed and patrol assignments." With 24-hour security, students should be more focused on getting to class than worrying about privacy being invaded when walking in and out of a bathroom.
Also, as much as we would like to believe the entirety of the under-21 "disobedient drunkards" are obeying the law, people are going to drink and let the underage drink. More so, drinking is allowed on campus, though there are guidelines specifying age and quantity. Tackling an issue such as this requires more than benches and couches.
