This summer fans of HBO’s latest hit television series True Blood were “glamoured” by vampires, shape shifters, maenads and humans.

Turmoil takes place in the fictional town of Bon Temps, La. Based on the book series The Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. The main character Sookie (Anna Paquin) is a telepath who can read minds of every being except for vampires.

In most of the series Sookie is accompanied by her best friend Tara (Rutina Wesley) and her vampire boyfriend Bill (Stephen Moyer).

Series creator Alan Ball left fans in shock at the end of season one when Sookie and Tara screamed as the foot of a mysterious dead body fell out of Detective Andy’s (Chris Bauer) car.

Picking right up from the finale, season two revealed that Miss Jeanette, a fake exorcist, was the person who was murdered with her heart removed by an unknown killer. Eventually, the killer turned out to be a maenad, an immortal creature that can hypnotize and control “primitive” beings such as humans.

This maenad turns out to be the true identity of this season’s primary villain, Maryann Forrester (Michelle Forbes). Forrester was introduced in season one as the random woman who moved into town and threw wild parties that people hardly remembered. We later find out how Maryann found her way to Bon Temps when she reveals to Tara that she summoned her in a ritual back in season one. HBO’s The Buzz covered Comic Con, a comic book convention, where avid True Blood fans could meet the main cast.

In a Q&A with Forbes, a fan asked what attracted her to the role. She responded, “When someone offers you an entrance where you are standing in the middle of the road naked with a pig…you don’t say no.”

It really is hard to pass up any role like that for any actor. There’s nothing like playing a supernatural character that takes over a town by mentally driving everyone insane to help it summon a god.

Fans got a deeper insight into the relationship between Bill and his maker, Lorena (Mariana Klaveno). Back in season one there was a flashback showing how Lorena ambushed him and turned him into a vampire against his will. At one point they were viciously attacking human beings, but later on Bill’s conscious prevented him from commiting such heinous acts. After refusing to participate in the murders and revealing to Lorena that he never loved her, she releases him, meaning that she no longer had any control of him as his maker.

The relationship between Bill and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) heats up when Eric requests for Bill’s maker Lorena to keep him away from Sookie when she was in trouble.
Eric later tricks Sookie into drinking his blood so he can know where she is at any time and even attempts to attract her sexually. This leads to Bill threatening Eric with outing him for his vampire blood running business to the vampire queen of the state of Louisiana.

Season two answered many questions, but also created unanswered ones, leaving fans wondering what will happen next. HBO confirmed that season three is set for next year. According to Afterellen.com, the newly introduced vampire queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Ann (Evan Rachael Wood) will have a major role in season three, along with Sookie’s newly introduced cousin, Hadley (Lindsey Haun).

For the die-hard fans that are looking for the perfect non-alcoholic beverage to drink while watching the season finale, the new True Blood drink will be available on Sept. 10. According to Ball, the True Blood beverage is a tasty blood orange soda. The season two finale of True Blood is Sunday, Sept. 13 at 9 PM Eastern Time.
