Grammy nominated R&B singer Trey Songz, hailing from Virginia, has been making his mark on music. Beginning his music career in 2005, Songz released his first album I Gotta Make It and in 2007 came out with his second, Trey Day.
In 2009 Songz released his third and latest album Ready, which hit gold status selling approximately 503,000 copies. Ready was also Grammy nominated for Best R&B Album. It includes the hit singles “I Need a Girl,” “Successful,” “LOL :-),” “I Invented Sex” and “Say Aah.” Songz will be releasing two more singles called “Neighbors Know My Name” and “Yo Side of the Bed.”
Songz is scheduled to perform on The Blue Print 3 Tour with rappers Jay–Z and Young Jeezy. The Blue Print 3 Tour will begin on Feb. 20 and ends on March 26. To catch The Blue Print 3 Tour in the Greater New York area, it will be at Madison Square Garden on March 2. Tickets are already on sale.
The Pace Press did a one on one interview with Songz to see how he is enjoying his success and what he will be being after The Blue Print 3 Tour.
The Pace Press (TPP): Are you happy with the success of Ready and do you see it going further than what you imagined?
Trey Songz (TS): Yes, I am very happy. My imagination is vivid and outlandish and I intend to be successful.
TPP: Will you be releasing any more songs off of Ready?
TS: I just finished filming the music video for “Neighbors Know my Name” and “Yo Side of the Bed” will be the next one.
TPP: Are there any artists you have not worked with that you want to in the future?
TS: So far going on tour with Jay–Z is great and we have a good relationship. Also I would like to work with Pharrell and Timbaland.
TPP: On your Web site you refer to yourself as the underdog but are rather successful and constantly growing in popularity, how do you feel you have progressed?
TS: Progression is evident within this album. When you are the underdog, it’s a blessing. I work like a slave and I grind like I have never had.
TPP: What is your charity Songz for Peace currently doing? Is it helping out with Haiti relief or other things we should know about?
TS: We recently teamed up with Wyclef Jean for Haiti Relief. It mainly helps with inner city youth and it helps high school kids with grants. I run it on my own.
TPP: How does it feel to perform with Jay–Z and Young Jeezy on The Blue Print 3 Tour?
TS: It’s a blessing. Jay–Z is in a category of his own so you can definitely say you made it. It’s still the beginning and it’s surreal since Jay-Z is my favorite rapper.
TPP: Are there any venues that you want to perform at but have not gotten a chance to?
TS: I’ve performed at the Garden before, but there is nothing like performing at the Garden with Jay–Z. It’s exciting. Other venues that I like are the LA Staple Center or even my home in Norfolk, Va.
TPP: What are your plans after the tour?
TS: I’m going to be jumping back in the studio.
TPP: Is there anything else you want to add?
TS: I want to say thank you and thank you to all of my fans and look out for the show!
