Modern day television is filled with various shows like NYC Prep, Gossip Girl and others, revolving around the theme of high school. In this vein comes Fox’s Glee. In the spring the show premiered its pilot, but did not fully continue as a season until this fall.

Glee is not just about high school but similar to High School Musical in that it uses singing and different high school stereotypes — from geeks to jocks — all interacting through music. The show was created by the man behind Nip/Tuck, Ryan Murphy.

As simple and “teenage-oriented” the show might seem, it is actually a very solid and serious production. In his search for cast members Murphy did not just go through pictures of actors and actresses. Murphy sought out for actual members of the theater on Broadway.

Afterwards, when actors of the theater did not fulfill some of these roles, Murphy went onto look for those without theatrical experience. But in order for those actors who had no theatrical experience to get the roles in Glee, it was necessary to show Murphy that they could sing and dance in addition to acting.

One of the main characters on the show, Will Schuester, is played by Matthew Morrison who previously acted in the Broadway show “Hairspray” and “Light In The Piazza.” Schuester comes to McKinley High School to save the glee club and help its members realize their full potential.

According to the Fox Web site for the show, members of the glee club “ include Kurt (Chris Colfer), a soprano who hits a high note in fashion; Mercedes (Amber Riley), a larger-than-life diva with a voice to match; Artie (Kevin McHale), a geeky guitarist who rocks and rolls; and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), a punk rocker who hides behind her stutter and blue hair extensions.”

The glee club also has two other members, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), who are from two different worlds. Rachel has the voice for glee club, but she does not have the fame she wants. Finn, Rachel's love interest, the quarterback with good looks.

However, being in the glee club is a problem for Finn since he wants to protect his reputation among his football teammates. Also, his girlfriend, Quinn (Dianna Agron), the head cheerleader, is not too happy with him joining the glee club. The “Cheerios” cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), is also constantly scheming against the glee club and Schuester.

Schuester has a lot of problems to deal with himself. His wife, Terri Schuester (Jessalyn Gilsig), is constantly demanding something of him, but he does find a friend in McKinley High, Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays), a cleanliness-obsessed teacher with hidden romantic feelings toward Schuester.

Even though Glee might seems like a typical high school show filled with problems like love, sex and popularity, but it does have something extra to it: music.

Various types of music are performed in the show which make it a bit more interesting and definitely entertaining. With positive reviews from newspapers and entertainment magazines the show is a gleeful hit for the fall season. Glee airs Wednesdays at 9 PM on Fox.
