Yellowcard is back with an impressive new album

Yellowcard's new album When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes celebrates the long-awaited return of the pop-punk band. The album starts off on a great note with "The Sound of You and Me." The beat kicks in and it's clear that their new member, Sean O'Donnell, has improved their sound with his bass and vocals.  The ending lyrics of this first song can be interpreted as talking about their return and how they will continue to have the love of their fans: "Bring walls down, hear all my sound/ Let me back in, love me again."

Stevenson headlines showcase and steals show

Don Giovanni Records hosted its third annual label showcase in NYC over two nights this past week. Featuring many of its signed artists, including Lemuria, Byrds of Paradise, Shell Shag and a few others, the second night of the showcase, hosted at the Music Hall of Williamsburg was a night of excellent music. Though every band who performed were fantastic, it was local folk/pop band Laura Stevenson & The Cans who stole the show.

Nada Surf performed to a packed house at Mercury Lounge for CMJ Friday night at 1 a.m. The band, who have released six albums to date, definitely have developed a following since they first formed in the 1990s.

New Orleans-based band the Generationals performed in the back of Littlefield, a performance art space in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The room was a small overly air-conditioned warehouse with a stage area barely a foot off the ground.

Zigmat releases album "Sounds Of Machines"

In May 2009, Zigmat released their debut album Sounds Of Machines. This Brooklyn based band experiments with electric beats, unusual sounds, guitar, bass and a bit of Spanish lyrics.

The Spanish lyrical play may be due to lead vocalist, Monica Rodriguez's Puerto Rican background. Other members of the group consist of Alon Leventon on guitar, keyboard or electro effects and Bassist, Stephen Yonkin.

Documentary asks students: Where is your line?

The University hosted a screening and panel discussion of the documentary film The Line on Oct. 12 in the Student Union. Before the showing Jessica Anderson introduced Director Nancy Schwartzman and the panelists who were going to do a Q&A afterwards. Panelists included Dan Aqualo, Lauren Trapanotto, Annamaria Santamaria and Schwartzman herself.

Movies at the University gives chance for fame

On Friday, Oct. 16, Law & Order filmed at the University, specifically at 41 Park Row and also in front of One Pace Plaza. Though they did most of their filming at the Downtown Hospital nearby, a good amount was filmed at the University.

Law & Order has filmed here before using many areas of the University to film. The Student Union, cafeteria, the Michael Schimmel Theater for the Arts and the library have been closed off for filming. In January of 2006 they filmed in the cafeteria and the library.

Over summer vacation, some people went to other countries, some religiously watched MTV's "16 and Pregnant" and some went to the movies.
